Learning Development — Intro

Currently, I’m a student a WOU studying Information Systems and this following year will be my last. Couldn’t be more excited to be out and about finally being done with school. However, I’ve recently come to realize that even after graduation, the learning doesn’t stop; it’s a steady trend upward you keep climbing. Outside of my schoolwork, the back-end learning, I’ve decided to take on front-end web development as a way to “get my feet wet” and see how I’d enjoy it. And I’ll put this bluntly, I love it.

I dove into it two months ago after discovering the “Zero to Mastery Academy”, (ZTM for short). There are many courses and pathways for different career goals. I went with “The Complete Web Developer in 2022” and “Mastering the Coding Interview: Data Structures + Algorithms”, as the curriculum seemed enjoyable (it is), and I had been recommended them by a friend in one of my classes. As I’m about halfway through the web developer course, I got the idea to document what I’m learning the other night as a way to better retain my knowledge. These blog posts are going to be me trying to explain what I learned in a given day, in a simplified manner as if I’m teaching it, and to then realize the gaps in my knowledge. This is known as the Feynman Technique.

As school continues into the next term, these blog posts will be a mix of what I’m learning from WOU, and from what I’m learning through ZTM. Through WOU, I’ll be learning and working on a real-world software development project, learning ethical hacking, and enterprise architecture. With ZTM, I just finished up advanced JavaScript, and will be learning Git, NPM + scripts, React.js, React Hooks, JSON, AJAX, Node.js and Express.js and finally, SQL.

Obviously, this is a lot to learn, but it’s been very exciting thus far to learn what I’ve learned. And I know that if I keep with it, learning something every day in incremental steps, that I’ll be far better off than if I don’t. The goal is to be better than yesterday, and in a month from now, be better than tomorrow.
